Kris deYoung - San Diego Artist

   \"\"

Southern California native, Kris deYoung, began studying medicinal and edible plants when she built a home in the northern California redwoods in the 1970s. This proximity to the land has lead to a lifelong love, study and knowledge of plants. She was inspried a few years ago to create bold and sensitive paintings of the world's plants in her "Native Plant Series." In these paintings she demonstrates man's destructive relationship with nature by juxtaposing hard edge or abstract designs with representational images. She seeks to increase awareness of this negative relationship with nature with these artworks. Three paintings representative of these ideas are Mojave Agave (show above) and California Sycamore & Chinese Hawthore Berry (shown below).

She earned a BA in Visual Arts from UC San Diego in 1974, continues art studies and has received numerous prizes, awards and national recognition. Her artwork is in local, national and international collections. She is a member of the San Diego Art Institute, in Balboa Park, and La Jolla Art Association, where she served a 3-year term as President of the Board of Directors from 2008 - 2011.

Feel free to browse through these pages and enjoy the paintings, drawings, photography, and giclee' reproductions. Contact the artist at 858-888-2360 to get more information about which images are available as giclee reproductions on 300# linen canvas or 300# cotton rag watercolor paper.
