Kris deYoung - San Diego Artist

Welcome to artist Kris deYoung's online art gallery. Known at the Painter of Native Plants, Kris has been traveling the world photographing native floral, which eventually become transformed into one of her beautiful oil or watercolor paintings. The oil painting to the left is a closeup image of the bloom of the Mojave Agave plant. This one was in glorious bloom at the Torrey Pines State Preserve and captured with a Sony digital camera. The original oil painting is 30"x30"x2" and was selected as best in show at Gallery 21 in Spanish Village in 2009 and as one of SWAA's Top 100 in 2010. It is currently on exhibit in the Artists Alley, 863 Mission, San Francisco, CA 94103.

Current Events:

Jan 14, 2012: Kris will be sharing her Native Plant Series art process at the California Native Plant Society CNPS Conference at the Town and Country in Mission Valley. Flower lovers of all ages are welcome to attend the Conference on Saturday, January 14.  See original images of Kris deYoung's artwork at the  La Jolla Art Association Gallery. Check their exhibition calendar for current events: http://lajollaart.org/events/exhibitions_2011.html.

There are many beautiful images of native plants, flowers and other scenes found around the world, but mostly in southern California. Feel free to browse through these pages and enjoy the paintings, drawings, photography, and giclee' reproductions. Contact the artist at 858-888-2360 to get more information about which images are available as giclee reproductions on 300# linen canvas or 300# cotton rag watercolor paper.

In her "Native Plants Series" Kris presents the juxtaposition of abstract and representational artistic styles, while informing about the intrusion of man, represented by hard-edge elements, into the botanical habitat of our planet's beautiful native plant communities. She is currently working toward 100 native plant portraits, but has painted many other venues and does a separate series of sunrise/sunset landscapes. The image below shows Kris between Toyon and Mojave Agave at the Artists Alley in San Francisco. Two other paintings in the gallery are Flowering Sycamore Tree and Chinese Hawthorn Berry.  She is working on #58 - 62 of her series of native plants.
