About Kris deYoung
Kris deYoung (Michel) initiated her painting career with visual arts studies in San Diego at the University of California where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1974. Since that time, she has built a cabin in the coastal hills of northern California, participated both on stage and behind the scenes for community theaters in Oregon, taught art classes, and hosted several Art Happenings. After moving back to San Diego in 1988, she renewed her passion for painting and currently serves on the executive board of the La Jolla Art Association as their president. She is also an exibiting member of the Spanish Village in Balboa Park.
Her most recent, "Native Plants" series of oil paintings, done in thick textural surfaces, challenges the viewer to consider man's effect on the beautiful and threatened habitat of our planet's native plants. As you will see in this collection of artwork, Kris is a versatile and enthusiastic artist, who is interested in exploring the boundaries both of external natural spaces and of internal creative spaces.
Her original art works can be found in collections nationally and internationally. She also has permanent wall murals displayed at the Mid-City School on Fairmount Street in City Heights, San Diego and in private residences in Newport Beach. |
