Description: Balloon Flower, so named due to the shape of the flower buds, is native to the Great Plains habitat of the US.  The graceful bluish purple flowers open dramatically to the sun. This image was captured during a walk in southern Minnesota and is painted with a strongly contrasting dark blue background. Paint is applied thickly to mimic the interesting texture of plant forms growing in and around the flower images. Hints of bright colors give add an interesting surprise for the viewer.
